About the Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre FoundationThe North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization, The Norwegian Hunting and Fishing Society, The Norwegian Salmon Rivers Association, The Sogn and Fjordane Regional College, The Sogn and Fjordane Tourist Board, The Heibergske Collections/Sogn Rural Museum, The Østfold Energy A/S and Lærdal municipality have joined to found the Norwegian Wild Salmon Centre Foundation. The foundation is governed by a board of five members, in which Lærdal municipality, the Ministry of the Environment and interested private persons are represented. The main objective of the Centre is to interpret information about the natural spreading of the wild salmon in the North atlantic and describe the human acitivity that is connected to management, exploitation and protection of the wild salmon stocks. The focus is on wild salmon both as a valuable natural resource and as a cultural impulse for many local communities, emphasising the dangers of overfishing, pollution, acid rain, river regulations, salmonfarming etc. Funding - Lifelong MembershipThe picture show the large oil painting (130x200 cm), which the Danish artist Svend Saabye gave to the project in the autumn of 1992. 500 prints (50x70 cm) of the painting, all signed by the artist, have been made. They are being sold for NOK 1,000 to fund the Centre and its work. A framed picture costs NOK 1.500. A purchase include lifelong membership with free access to the Centre at any time.
